Operation Birthday Party

The troops were scheduled to arrive at 14oo hours and fall out at 1530. Due to weather (it didn't rain but the humidity was awful!) we moved our mission indoors and thought we were ready for action!
We set up some stations for the new recruits to check-out. When they entered Fort Russell, they were given an army helmet, and asked to guess how many plastic army men were in the jar. From there, they were sent to target practice (Nerf dartboard) and pretty much once they got their hands on the Nerf gun there was no reigning them back in. Some boys opted to pop a balloon for their boot camp exercise orders (drop and give me 5, run in place for 10 seconds, do 10 jumping jacks, etc.) (thanks Heidi for the fun idea!) and a few more participated with pin the army tanker on the battlefield, NO ONE touched the coloring pages...it was basically a free for all in the playroom. Baxter Bear was our best behaved soldier. He's here for the weekend from Harrison's class, and we get to journal about his time with our family.

Cake time came and went in the blink of an eye

In case that wasn't enough sugar, we moved right along to the Pinata.

And then we opened presents, which was fast and furious

Having a half hour of party time left, and nothing else to entertain the troops, I sent them outside for water balloons. Thankfully, no one went AWOL on us.

And just when we thought the party was over, Uncle John and Aunt Sandra surprised us with a visit. If only the professionals had gotten here sooner - I'll bet these two could have gotten our boys to shape up!

I'm exhausted. And I send my heartfelt apologies to Mr. Chuck E. Cheese for ever thinking having my own party would avoid all the chaos and mayhem. Home parties are NOT easier. And if this party's purpose was to prove that I am not cut out for them...MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

I love the Army theme. I'm guessing that Harrison is into that, huh? It looks like you did a great job with the party. I know they are tons of work, but I think they make the best memories!

The party looks like a HUGE success, Jan. Home parties absolutely kick my behind. I am a big fan of outsourcing now. But you did a great job and Harrison looks absolutely blissful!

Get some rest!

AWESOME party Jan! How super fun and a fabulous theme! Harrison is one lucky boy and you did a great job with everything. How many boys did you have? I am always so scared I will run out of things to do at parties. Water balloons are the perfect way to finish off! What a fun birthday week!

Jan, You are so cute. I love reading your blog! I love that you have boys and that your oldest is a kindergartner, it makes us have world's in common! I laughed so hard at your laugh, sigh, cry post. After reading your blog, I wished that you were my neighbor! We would be good good friends! And, I am sure that you have tons of friends...and know that I am one of them for sure! I have cried over a missing ingredient! And have laughed about not really having friends....or a life outside the mommyhood bubble that I live in!

Okay, so...how are you liking the project runway? The Avant Garde episode was terrible. Compared to last years, they were unimpressive. I did like joe's though, surprisingly enough!! I don't really usually like his style.

AND last but not least, you are such a cute Mom! This boy birthday party is THE CUTEST IDEA! How fun, your boys are lucky kids to have such a talented Mommy!

I had a huge joint party last year at home. This year we had one swim party and will have one gymnastics party. NO MORE HOME parties for me. Plus, I think I spent more $$ on the stupid home party!

If it helps, the party looked like it was fabulous and fun!

Your (his) party is utter cuteness. No party at CEC will ever be this cute and thought out. Right? Your game ideas are just adorable.

Oh Jan it was sooo nice to hear from you! I was actually just thinking of you yesterday and wondering how you were doing! Your boys are just as darling as ever - I miss seeing pics of them! And OMGoodness look at Harrison's party! You're pretty much the best mom on the planet. AND I just saw my cutest friend Katie post on your blog - do you know each other just from the blogging world or what? You both have darling boys - you would SO hit it off IRL. Maybe you need to plan a trip to UT? You could visit me, Katie, and Andrea!

Oh I forgot to tell you that I love your Palin Power shirt! lol I think I'm ordering one for myself too - my dad would get a huge kick out of it. You'll have to tell me which one you ordered and how the sizing is. I don't want a ginormous, frumpy looking t-shirt.

Totally agree with Nat...come visit us! The party looks SO cute and so perfect. I feel for you with the timing...that is always a BIG concern with me and parties (don't love entertaining 15 extra kids???). i can't believe you moved it inside at the last minute either. Brave mom! Kudos to you...it looks like the best 6 year old party in the world.

I just wish Gabe could have been there since he often asks about his friend Harrison.
